My gallery showing LIGHT: In Black and White was a wide array of images reflecting my vision of beauty. The raw beauty of the women I have been blessed to capture with my camera. That evening, I held a dinner for 20 women who have positively affected my life. It could have been in person or via social media, but I wanted to show my appreciation to them in a big way. Decorated beautifully by Oliva with Delectables catering, she and her team hand-picked some of the most beautiful fresh flowers I had ever seen. Once the event was over, the flowers were sent home with me. After a few days and a few dreams about these petals, I called my friend and model Tabitha Miller over for an impromptu shoot. I knew that I wanted the final images to look more like a painting than digital photography, so I kept it simple.
I only used the available light in my bathroom, which was very poor. I knew that cranking up my ISO would give me the exposure I wanted but also add the grain and the increased contrast that I saw in my dream. Using my bedroom as the dressing area, Tabitha and I shot some of the most beautiful images. Yes, in my bathtub. I told her how I wanted her make-up, we pulled from her bag and my wardrobe closet and this is what we created….
Flowers exude life
Colors and shades
Floating on the magnificent of existence
Withering petals stuck to wet skin
As she found sensuality in feeling the softness
The artistic curves of her body in tight spaces
While natures perfume filled the air
But do we dare to forget their beauty once death has consumed its color
Fading as breathing sinks only into memories
This is all I have left of these……
